We can all imagine situations in which a drunk or high employee can endanger the lives or working conditions of their coworkers and themselves. We can all imagine situations in which heavy machinery is being operated by someone whose reflexes, judgment, or spatial abilities have been compromised. We can all picture a crane operator accidentally dumping a pile of bricks on a group of people. It is easy to envision things like this happening when we think of drug related work accidents.

However, there are other fields in which the results can be really horrible, as well. Child care centres can feature lost children, abused children, or neglected children. And, as for the animal care centres, this can include anything...

In the legendary tale of Alice in Wonderland, Alice scorns the idea of believing in impossible things. The Queen replies by saying that she guessed that Alice really hadn’t had much practice. She goes on to say, “Why, I sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.”

When you look at the history of humankind, you can easily see that it wasn’t just one giant leap from inventing the wheel to I-Pads and laptops. There was a lot of believing in impossible things along the way….things which, eventually, grew into reality.

There was a time when workers didn’t have as many rights and privileges as they do today, and there was a time when employers would not be entirely sure if their...

The world is becoming more complicated every day as the digital revolution continues to evolve. The Internet has made research virtually instantaneous, and thus, has made business faster than ever. It seems at times that there is virtually no separation between working and not working. People are constantly working hard to further their careers by putting in extra effort to stand out; if they don’t, they fear that they will be overtaken by someone else who is putting in that extra effort. Thus, it’s virtually mandatory now to be working beyond the traditional 8A-4P, 9A-5P, 10A-6P time frames. This leads to all new types of stress factors not really present in the workplace of previous generations.

The Need To Do...

Most people have taken a statistics class at some point in their school career, but the reality is that after school the statistical learning often stops. When drug and alcohol testing companies like CMM Technology mention random testing, there is a good chance many workers have forgotten what the statistical method entails.

Employers, on the other hand, understand what random testing means. However, the ones who try to stay current on the latest research on drugs and alcohol are bound to run into terms that have little meaning.

Understanding the basics of sampling gives employers the tools needed to intelligently respond to staff questions, whilst recognising commonly used research terms makes the information in...

Ecstasy can make people become more affectionate. Speed can make people feel more energetic. GHB has euphoric qualities. Depressants can produce feelings of contentment. These are all valid effects of illicit drugs, and if that is all that was revealed, it would lead to a person believing they are beneficial. Who does not want to feel affectionate, energetic, euphoric, or content?

However, these descriptions are the typically self-servings drug effects that substance abusers pick and choose to describe why they feel the need to use a particular illicit substance. What about the person who was once friendly and took part in all the social activities and bit by bit becomes withdrawn, if not anti-social? Studies of...

When you ride on a really exciting rollercoaster or go see a scary movie, there is so much to enjoy. You experience what would beLetting Go of Control a very real danger if it wasn’t for all the safety precautions, like the rollercoaster track or the fact that the movie isn’t actually real. For a brief instant, though, you feel as if you really are experiencing an exhilarating, dangerous moment, and of course the adrenaline and endorphins leave you feeling very good afterward.

If they didn’t, then the movie and amusement park industries would have been out of business a long time ago. It feels good to let go of control every once in a while.

This same principle applies to people who wish to abuse drugs or...

There is strength in numbers, or so we have heard. Yes, two hundred warships are likely to win against two warships, but other than that, is there any finesse in numbers? The truth is that a good general can make two warships last a very long time, and that a bad general can get many warship quickly reduced down to only a few. So, yes, there must be some finessing of the numbers for there to truly be strength in numbers.

What do work related tasks have to do with strength in numbers?

Well, when someone retires, and we mean truly retires not just say that they do, they suddenly find themselves with a lot of time on their hands. They are able to easily make meetings and meet deadlines, well ahead of...

When you are looking to grow your small business, there are very few things which are better for this growth than using onsite drug and alcohol testing. Unlike with a large company, any employee missing from the day to day operations can seriously slow down the operations of the business. This means that onsite drug and alcohol screening is very time effective when you are looking to maintaining maximum output in your operations, but you still want to start implement employee screening procedures.

Now, we have talked about how small businesses can “dress for success” so to speak by acting like they have many more employees and therefore using employee drug and alcohol testing as part of this preparation...

Sometimes, at Mediscreen, we seek to inspire you with what the human spirit is capable of. And these decisions do not only affect your own financial status, but that of your employees, as well. Therefore, your decisions make a lot of impact for a lot of people.

When you hear a piece of soulful music, or you walk out onto the city street on a clear night where the golden lights sparkle against the black velvet sky, you may feel bit of emptiness…but in a good way. When people paint or write music for emptiness, they are glamorizing it like it’s never been glamorized before. You see, emptiness can be beautiful, but then it can be dangerous and heart wrenching, as well.

What do we mean by that?

Well, a good kind of emptiness involves some sort of helpful cleansing of your spirit. You get rid of something which was bothering you or your intentions are not as bright as you thought they would be, but they are lot stronger than you realized. These are examples of...
