We can all imagine situations in which a drunk or high employee can endanger the lives or working conditions of their coworkers and themselves. We can all imagine situations in which heavy machinery is being operated by someone whose reflexes, judgment, or spatial abilities have been compromised. We can all picture a crane operator accidentally dumping a pile of bricks on a group of people. It is easy to envision things like this happening when we think of drug related work accidents.

However, there are other fields in which the results can be really horrible, as well. Child care centres can feature lost children, abused children, or neglected children. And, as for the animal care centres, this can include anything...

Okay, we arrive at another article on romantic or other relationship breakups, and how this seems to inevitably lead to the over consumption and possible habit formation of alcohol. Well, most of us have been there. Many of us have experienced the intense, lightning pain of total rejection at the hands of someone we were in love with, or the absence of phone calls from someone we thought was our friend.

It becomes almost physically painful, at some point. It is not enough that they stomped on your heart and your feelings. Now, they are attacking your body. It can feel like this is the final straw before the camel’s back is truly broken, and you either lash out or “lash in,” so to speak. If you don’t end up...

Most people have taken a statistics class at some point in their school career, but the reality is that after school the statistical learning often stops. When drug and alcohol testing companies like CMM Technology mention random testing, there is a good chance many workers have forgotten what the statistical method entails.

Employers, on the other hand, understand what random testing means. However, the ones who try to stay current on the latest research on drugs and alcohol are bound to run into terms that have little meaning.

Understanding the basics of sampling gives employers the tools needed to intelligently respond to staff questions, whilst recognising commonly used research terms makes the information in...

Do you remember, when you were a kid, dreading even the smallest amount of pain? Whether it was taking off a bandage or getting your blood drawn at the doctor’s office, there was such a huge fear of pain that you would do just about anything to not feel it? As you grew up, and experienced more pain, both in the body and in the heart, you became accustomed to it or unafraid of it because you understood it better.

It never meant that you did not feel pain, but it meant that you knew the proper context of the pain with regard to the surrounding circumstances.

When you entered the business world, you saw that some people were fired and experienced a great deal of pain until they were suitably (and for...

When you ride on a really exciting rollercoaster or go see a scary movie, there is so much to enjoy. You experience what would beLetting Go of Control a very real danger if it wasn’t for all the safety precautions, like the rollercoaster track or the fact that the movie isn’t actually real. For a brief instant, though, you feel as if you really are experiencing an exhilarating, dangerous moment, and of course the adrenaline and endorphins leave you feeling very good afterward.

If they didn’t, then the movie and amusement park industries would have been out of business a long time ago. It feels good to let go of control every once in a while.

This same principle applies to people who wish to abuse drugs or...

You know how nice it is to be all wrapped up in your comforter, blankets, sheets, and body heat in the morning. You know how nice it is to wake up to that delicious warm and snuggly feeling of total safety, total comfort, and total serenity.

Of course, we all have to get out of bed and go to work, then. But, after a while, we find it so tempting to simply lie down and remember the feeling we have when we first wake up.

When someone does drugs or becomes an alcoholic, they are attempting to recreate that feeling. The thing is, stressful things occur all around them and easily pull them out of this state unless they are really deep into the drug induced experience. Once the drug wears off, all hell breaks...

We all know how nerve wracking it is to wait for something bad to happen. We also know how important it is to always be on the watch for good things to occur when and where they do. If we have a big dread fear for the bad event or circumstance, we will probably freeze up or work furiously until the time has come to meet it.

Waiting for it to happen is almost worse, if not ten times worse, then the actual event itself. And, for most people, if they could have forgotten until right up next to the event, they probably would have chosen to do so.

When you are dreading something, you can’t eat, you can’t sleep, you can’t work, you can’t focus, and you can’t enjoy anything that is going on in the...

When you hear a piece of soulful music, or you walk out onto the city street on a clear night where the golden lights sparkle against the black velvet sky, you may feel bit of emptiness…but in a good way. When people paint or write music for emptiness, they are glamorizing it like it’s never been glamorized before. You see, emptiness can be beautiful, but then it can be dangerous and heart wrenching, as well.

What do we mean by that?

Well, a good kind of emptiness involves some sort of helpful cleansing of your spirit. You get rid of something which was bothering you or your intentions are not as bright as you thought they would be, but they are lot stronger than you realized. These are examples of...
